Tamdhu is a Speyside distillery situated in the village of Knockando in the historic county of Banffshire, Scotland. It was founded in 1896 by Tamdhu Distillery Company. The name Tamdhu derives from the Gaelic for ‘little dark hill’. For many years the whisky produced was mainly used in blends until 2011 when the distillery was sold to Ian Macleod Distillers. Since then there has been a shift towards producing Tamdhu as a single malt. The spirit made for their whisky is exclusively matured in the finest sherry casks, both first and second fill. The new owners were inspired by the founders passion for ageing whisky in these types of casks. In 2018 a Tamdhu 12 year old was proudly released that went on to win Gold in the 2022 Wold Spirits Competition. The family-owned firm also won Distiller of the Year at Whisky Magazine’s Icons of Whisky Awards 2018.

Official Tasting Notes
Batch Strength 007 is bottled un-chillfiltered at 57.5% ABV, and has a rich, natural copper hue crafted by the finest Oloroso sherry seasoned casks from the bodegas of Jerez, Spain. On the nose you’re met with a subtle waft of vanilla sponge, followed by spicy cinnamon and roasted praline. The luxurious, thick mouthfeel is complimented by a decadent pavlova filled with luscious raspberries. A drop of water unveils caramel apricots with a wave of oak spice, and a zingy lemon punch. On the lengthy and lingering finish, warm oak spices give way to baked figs and evident sherry flavours, which ascend to meet the freshly peeled clementine.
