Tomatin 10 Year Old SMWS Kissed by Cherry Lips 11.71 Single Malt Whisky 48%

Cherry sweeties smooch with dark chocolate, plum sauce and fig before an afterglow of sticky toffee, glacé cherries, salted caramel and ginger. 

Tomatin distillery is situated in the Highland Scottish malt whisky region and is located in the village of Tomatin, sixteen miles south of Inverness. The history of the distillery goes way back to 1897 and half a century ago Tomatin was the biggest malt distillery in Scotland. In the 1970’s there was a surge in the production of Scottish whisky resulting in an excess in the early 1980’s. As a consequence many distilleries failed. Perhaps Tomatin would have closed if it wasn’t for the good fortune of being taken over by new Japanese owners. There are now fewer stills and the company took the decision to concentrate on promoting the Tomatin brand rather than making blended whisky. A large part of the production is for subsequent single malts in order to to achieve their aim. The owners are able to take advantage of the availability of eleven racked warehouses and two dunnage, giving them the capacity to store a huge number of casks.

There is now a heathly core range of whiskies and a peated single malt that was initially brought out in 2013. In 2018 a 30 and a 50 year old were released. In 2022 the distillery won ‘Scotch Whisky Producer of the Year’ & ‘Outstanding Spirits Producer of the Year’ at the International Wine & Spirits Competition.
