Daftmill is a farm distillery, owned and run by the Cuthbert family, who grow all of the barley used in their whisky on-site. The distillery is only operational during the farm's quiet periods in mid-summer and mid-winter, sometimes producing as few as 100 casks per year.
This small batch UK release from Daftmill distillery was all distilled in the summer of 2009. Using five casks only (four ex-bourbon barrels and one ex-Oloroso sherry butt), this 11 year old release confidently asserts Daftmill's elegant, lowland style with a nice sherried twist. A limited release of 1,875 bottles.
Tasting Notes
Nose : Initially quite shy, and this dram benefits from a little breathing time in the glass, those with patience are rewarded with a harmoniously balance of fresh tropical fruit reminiscent of mango and cola cubes with thicker aromas of dried figs and cigar boxes.
Palate : Wonderfully spicey giving notes of clootie dumpling and lemon zest developing into something smoother with toffee notes and Fraserburgh butteries.
Finish : Exceptional with the ex-sherry casks really shining through and waves of fresh fiery gingerbread lingering.
