Cambus Whisky

Cambus is a closed Lowland, single grain Scotch distillery. It was founded in 1806 by John Mowbray and is situated in Cambus itself near Alloa, Clackmannanshire. The distillery stayed in family ownership for a large part of the 19th century. In 1914 there was a devastating fire which meant its inevitable closure. The distillery was ready to start production again in 1937 but this was postponed during WWII. Finally production commenced once more in 1944. The current owners Diageo ended the single grain distillation in 1993 as part of the company’s production reshuffle. Then in 2011 they constructed a new cooperage on site with no expense spared.
Much of the grain whisky produced at the distillery was used in blends and there had also been a 13, 15 year old plus a none age statement released. Independent bottling’s are available now but obviously becoming scarcer. A 40 year old was also released in 2016.
