About Strathmill Whisky
Strathmill distillery has a history dating back to 1891 when founded. Built within a former flour mill it is located in the Scottish town of Keith in Banffshire. Initially Strathmill was named Glenisla-Glenlivet but soon changed to its current name four years later.
The owners Diageo use the majority of the malt for blends and primarily J&B blended whisky. A more recent turn of events has seen the distillery focus on producing gin instead of whisky. Interestingly one of the early owners of Strathmill was a well know gin producer named W. & A. Gilbey. Single malt from Strathmill is quite rare. There is one official bottling which is the Flora & Fauna 12 year old. There are also independent bottling’s from the likes of Signatory Vintage and Gordon & McPhail. The style of whisky produced is delicate, fragrant and fruity. The purifiers on the spirit stills help the lighter notes reach the condenser defining the spirits character.
