Mortlach 2012 11 Year Old Small Batch Edition #1 Signatory
This single malt expresses a fruit and nut character derived from its 11 years of maturation in ex-sherry and ex-bourbon casks. This release was bottled by Signatory and offer aromas of freshly baked flapjack, coconut oil and toasted pecan on the nose, leading to notes of tarte Tatin , peach compote and roasted chestnuts throughout the palate.

Founded in 1823 by James Findlater, Mortlach was the first legal distillery to be constructed in Dufftown. Dufftown is now the home of many other distilleries in the Speyside whisky region. For a period the distillery was also used as a brewery and a church. Current owners Diageo use much of the whisky produced in the Johnnie Walker bottling's. There is also an official core range of four single malts introduced in 2018. Since its release the new brand has proven popular and sales are reported to be very healthy. Other recent expressions of note are- The oldest official Mortlach bottling, a 47 year old as part of the Special Releases range. Plus a 25 year old Prima & Ultima swiftly followed by a Rare by Nature 21 year old. Mortlach is well know for being popular with the independent bottlers and it’s quality really shines when matched with ex-sherry casks.
