Dalgety is a new brand created by Hannah Whisky Merchants in 2022. The business was founded by Gregor Hannah in 2012 and they are best know for creating Lady Of The Glen bottling’s. The company's ethos is to source and hand bottle limited run casks from distilleries excess quality stock. Single malt from closed distilleries are also bottled. Hannah Whisky Merchant’s is located north of the Firth of Forth in Inverkeithing, Fife. The goal for the new brand is to showcase quality small batch whiskies and takes its name from the local Dalgety Bay. Interestingly the labels glow in the dark referencing the beach nearby that can appear to glow at night. There were four initial releases which were a Tormore 11 year old, Tamnavulin 13 year old, Craigellachie 12 year old and an Islay 12 year old all bottled in the summer of 2022. A marriage of three separate casks was used for the Islay and two casks for the Tormore, Tamnavulin and Craigellachie.
Tormore in the Speyside region lies north, east of Grantown-on-Spey in Morayshire. Founded in 1958 by Schenley International the distillery was up and running two years later to supply whisky for the blending houses. It now is owned by Elixir Distillers, the company belonging to Sukhinder and Rajbir Singh. They acquired the distillery recently in June 2022 and intend to open a visitor centre. In Tormore, they certainly have a site that is perfect for such a project as the listed buildings are already stunning themselves. Designed by the renowned architect Sir Albert Richardson, these buildings are beautiful with their green copper roofs and tall feature windows. Tormore is one of Scotland’s larger distilleries and has eight stills in total housed in the impressively tall still house. At the moment the core range includes the 14 & 16 year olds. Exciting times lie ahead for this distillery with such ambitious entrepreneurs at the helm who aim to capitalise on work already done and further enhance the brand on a global stage.
