Bunnahabhain 18 Year Old Whisky 46.3%
An excellent multi-award winning 18 year old Bunnahabhain whisky that is non-chill filtered and has natural colour. This deeply coloured malt is a firm Bunnahabhain family favourite. Matured exclusively in sherry casks and bottled at a great strength of 46.3% abv the whisky is rich and mellow with a slight tang of salt from the sea air. The finish is dry and fruity with a hint of spice and salt.
I have read some amazing reviews of this whisky. People are absolutely nuts about it, they say it is amazingly balanced and full of chocolate. I had the bottle for some time, and it thought, "ok, it is time to see what all the fuss is about". I have now tasted it and it is a very good whisky. On the nose, I got cocoa cream, hay and burnt grass; cotton, coffee and, of course, that chocolate note everyone is rambling about.
On the palate, it is an amazing dram. Orange notes, more chocolate; milk powder. It is very nutty. I liked it. The after taste is mostly burnt hay and orange /chocolate notes. Overall, I think this is an excellent dram that lives up to its expectations. 89 over 100 is my score for it.

Bunnahabhain has a stunning coastal location by the Sound of Islay to the north east of the island. In 1881 William Robertson founded Bunnahabhain along with the brothers William and James Greenless. The Islay Distillers Company Ltd was then merged with William Grant & Co in 1887 to form Highland Distilleries Company Limited. After one take over and another sale this popular distillery is now owned by Distell International Ltd. Bunnahabhain is the first distillery on Islay to boast a net zero production output. A new visitors centre has also been opened there. The core range consists of the 12, 18 and 25 year olds newly packaged as well as a 40 year old. Demand for their peated whisky has grown considerably in recent years so in 2017 the peated Striuireadair was released quickly follow by the Toiteach a Dha in 2018. There have also been numerous independent bottlings and in 2021 a cask strength 12 year old single malt was released.

Official Tasting Notes
Nose: Salted caramel leading to sticky toffee pudding sprinkled with nutmeg. With time a leathery quality emerges.
Palate: Dense, rich sherried notes perked up with a coastal saltiness. On a second wave roast chestnuts emerge and gentle wood spice.
Finish: Woodspice becomes mixed spice. The finish is warming and lengthy; salt and sherry towards the very end.
Overall: Bunnahabhain without chill-filtration is dense and oily and shows off its sherried credentials with ease.
