About Chain Pier Whisky
The spirit of Chain Pier Distillery is a landmark liquid, capturing a unique and fleeting moment in Edinburgh's distilling heritage. Operational only between late 2018 and late 2019, this experimental pilot facility - a temporary venture for John Crabbie & Co. was integral to bringing single malt production back to the capital city after a 90-year hiatus.
The distillery's entire output was incredibly limited: a mere 39 casks of Lowland single malt before the site was decommissioned. This extreme scarcity cements Chain Pier's production as one of the rarest of the modern era.
For the whisky collector, the remaining Chain Pier stock is primarily accessed through independent bottlers. These third parties purchase the ultra-rare casks and release them as single cask expressions, often retaining the high proof and distinct character of the original spirit. Every bottle bearing the Chain Pier name, therefore, is not just a dram, but a highly coveted, finite artifact representing the dawn of modern distilling in Edinburgh.
