About Dalwhinnie Whisky
Dalwhinnie distillery is situated in beautiful Scottish Cairngorm National Park in the village of Dalwhinnie. Although the distillery is remote it is easily accessible and visible from the A9 major road to Inverness. When founded the distillery was named Strathspey for a year and was little know before its incorporation into Diageo’s Classic Malt’s Series in 1987. Now Dalwhinnie is know worldwide with a style of whisky that is smooth, honeyed and floral with a wisp of peat smoke.
The distillery uses the old method of worm tubs to gather the spirit vapours to turn them into liquid spirit. In the 1990’s the distillery moved away from this method to to the more recent shell and tube condensers. The spirit’s style altered and it wasn’t long before the worm tubs were back in full use again.
In 1991 a visitors centre was built and a year later the distillery underwent a costly refurbishment. Visitors are encouraged and there are various tours and tastings available. In the core range there is the popular 15 year old Distiller’s Edition and the Dalwhinnie Winter’s Gold
