About Glen Elgin Whisky
Glen Elgin is a Speyside distillery located in the hamlet of Fogwatt, Morayshire. It was founded in 1898 by partners William Simpson and James Carle who did not enjoy great fortune and sold the distillery three years later to the Glen Elgin-Glenlivet Distillery Co. After this shaky start and another new ownership the distillery re-open in 1906 and quickly became popular with blenders of the time. Glen Elgin has been and is a key component in the well know White Horse blended malts.
Traditional worm tubs are still used to cool the spirit produced. The resulting character of the whisky is full-bodied, mellow with a honeyed sweetness. As much of the spirit made goes into blending the Glen Elgin 12 year old is the only official bottling. There are also some excellent independent bottlings that help to showcase just how good Glen Elgin is as a single malt.
