Glen Spey distillery lies in the centre of the Speyside whisky producing region in Rothes, Morayshire. The distillery was founded by James Stuart & Co. in 1878 and back then was know as the Mill of Rothes.
Current owners Diageo use most of the distillery’s output for blending and much of that goes into the popular J&B brand of blended whisky.
The stills were increased from two to four pairs in 1970 and the distillery is at present the forth smallest in the owners portfolio. There is just one official bottling which is the Flora & Fauna 12 year old. There are also independent bottlings from the likes of Gordon & MacPhail and Berry Bros & Rudd but these remain quite rare. The character of a Glen Spey is fairly light, fresh and easy drinking making a good whisky for blending.
