Originating in 1898, the Caperdonich Distillery was closed in 2001 and demolished in 2011; with its light, floral and creamy distillate forever lost to the Speyside region.
This bottling of this rare single malt, fully matured in a Bourbon barrel, is the jewel in the crown of this outrun. Distilled on the 27th of August 1997 and bottled at cask strength on the 24th of July 2020; this amber hued dram is a piece of whisky history that would grace the shelves of any collector.

Caperdonich was founded in 1897 by James Grant and was originally named Glen Grant No.2 after the earlier built neighbouring Glen Grant distillery. Interestingly there was a whisky pipe that carried the spirit produced at No.2 over the road to its neighbour. Lucky locals were said to have managed to tap holes in the pipe for their own consumption!
The distillery was closed in 1902 shortly after its opening and remained that way for over sixty years until eventually in 1965 Glenlivet Distillers started its renovations and production commenced once more. In the 1960’s the two sites were no longer legally allowed to have the same name so in 1967 the distillery was renamed Caperdonich.
In 1977 Caperdonich, meaning ‘secret well’ fell under Seagrams ownership. The whisky produced was mainly for blending in Chivas Regal, Passport and Queen Anne Scotch. Pernod Richard bought Seagrams in 2000 and the distillery was mothballed two years later. Now closed this distillery has spent much of its life span lying dormant.
