A superb Clynelish bottled as part of Diageo’s Special Releases 2022. This whisky displays a spicer side to the distillery's usual fruity, waxy style. The finish in oloroso and Pedro Ximenéz casks has created a rich whisky full of character. Aromas of fruit, herbs and scented oak spice are complimented by rich wine sweeter flavours entwined with pepper spice. The label features Felis Sylvestris the elusive Scottish wild cat which can be found roaming the land around the distillery. A limited edition whisky to be savoured and enjoyed.

Official Tasting Notes
APPEARANCE - Liquid sunlight. Bright gold.
BODY - Medium.
NOSE - Creamy top notes soon give way to light yet complex fruity and herbal aromas; subtle, understated suggestions of fruity mincemeat, tinned pears, even heather honey. Deeper still, spicy scents of oak preview a soaring intensity on the palate. A drop of water increases the herbal note, while also introducing a familiar waxy hint.
PALATE - A very smooth, mouth-filling texture introduces a lively taste that is rich and wine-sweet overall, the palate well-balanced by snarling peppery, oaky spice. A little water enhances the sweetness, steers the smoothness of the texture towards waxiness and rounds the flavours, which soon give way again to spicy heat.
FINISH - Quite long, chili-spiced, and appetisingly drying, with lingering pepper. A little water enhances the creamy-smooth texture and adds a little more spice.
Clynelish is an east coast Highland distillery located just off the A9 in the town of Brora, Sutherland. Founded in 1819 by the duke of Sutherland the distillery was built with an aim to produce whisky to take some trade away from smugglers in the local area. A new Clynelish distillery was constructed in 1967 opposite the original one and in 1968 the old Clynelish was closed. Interestingly the first distillery was then named Brora and production started a year later. Clynelish is now owned by Diageo and is one of the Four Corners distilleries for the Johnnie Walker blended brand. The whisky has a rich, waxy, oiliness to it which works well for blending Scotch. Much of the 4.8 million litre capacity is used for blending however there is a core 14 year old single malt. There have been numerous other recent single malt releases too, plus you can also find independent bottling’s for sale.
