On my trip to Scotland, one of the gems I found was Glen Garioch. Never had one of their whiskies before and now, after 3 expressions, I believe they have become a trending topic in my mind. First of all, a little background here: you don't pronounce Glen "GARY-OCK", it is pronounced "GLEN GEERIE". Having said that, this distillery has a lot of history: it was founded in 1797, by the Mason Family, who lost the distillery and re-bought it several times. Also, this was the first distillery to use gas to heat up the copper stills. Well, let's talk about this expression. The 1797 founders' reserve has a lot of flavor and it is very enjoyable, especially for a NAS.
Bottled at 48%abv, tawny color. On the nose: red fruit, strawberry, tobacco. Very Winey. Grape juice, delicious aroma. Caramel. On the palate: caramel, grapes, raisins, oak spice. A nice balance between the vanilla flavors and the dehydrated fruits. Chocolate. The after taste is great also.Vanilla and tobacco leaf. Oak spice. Some herbal notes. Clove. Very enjoyable. Overall, I would recommend this whisky to everyone since "balance" is the keyword here. Slàinte!

Official Tasting Notes
Aromas - Warm amber in appearance, sweet vanilla and subtle spice combine with fruitier green apple and grapefruits on the nose.
Taste - Butter cream and vanilla pave the way to fruity green apple skin and citrus cleanliness, leading to an elegant and subtle finish.
Glen Garioch has a long history dating back to 1797 when it was founded by John Mason. The distillery is the furthest east in Scotland and sits in the old market town of Oldmeldrum, near Aberdeen. Exciting changes have recently been made by current owners Beam Suntory. The site now has its own malting floors with the ability to provide a quarter of its own requirements. Inspired to bring back the full-bodied characteristics of the old whisky the company have made alterations in the production. Direct gas firing of the wash still, a more lengthy process achieves the desired results. The style of Glen Garioch Highland single malt is sweet, creamy and full-bodied. Whisky is only produced in small batches and the focus is on quality not quantity. The non age 1797 Founder’s Reserve and a 12 year old make up the regular offering. There are also fantastic limited edition vintage releases.
