Bunnahabhain's Stiùireadair single malt pays homage to the distillery's shoreline on the north-east coast of Islay. They used whisky matured in first and second fill Sherry casks, with a leaning towards deliciously coastal malt.

Welcome to another Bunnahabhain unpronounceable expression, this time the Stiuireadair, which means "Helmsman", who is the sailor that steers the helm of a ship. Bottled at 46.3%abv, matured in first and second filled sherry casks. On the nose, it is very tropical. Pineapple, spongy cake, tropical fruits like peaches. Honey; very appealing on the nose, a yeasty cake. There is a ghostly chocolate and brownies. I loved it.

On the palate, it is very sweet. Vanilla cake and "dulce de tres leches" topping. It is very spongy and cakey. The after taste was nice. Chocolate, salt and ginger. Vanilla, Tres leches and red fruit finish. Overall, this is actually an incredible whisky, which is not expensive at all, and it is full of flavor. An instant favorite, everyday dram. It has a decent amount of ABV to achieve all these complex notes. My score for it is 93 over 100.

Bunnahabhain has a stunning coastal location by the Sound of Islay to the north east of the island. In 1881 William Robertson founded Bunnahabhain along with the brothers William and James Greenless. The Islay Distillers Company Ltd was then merged with William Grant & Co in 1887 to form Highland Distilleries Company Limited. After one take over and another sale this popular distillery is now owned by Distell International Ltd. Bunnahabhain is the first distillery on Islay to boast a net zero production output. A new visitors centre has also been opened there. The core range consists of the 12, 18 and 25 year olds newly packaged as well as a 40 year old. Demand for their peated whisky has grown considerably in recent years so in 2017 the peated Striuireadair was released quickly follow by the Toiteach a Dha in 2018. There have also been numerous independent bottlings and in 2021 a cask strength 12 year old single malt was released.
